Some people think that the best way to reduce crime is to give longer prison sentences. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
In many country, crime is a big problem and some people think that longer prison sentences is the best way to reduce it. I agree with this opinion because criminals will be scared of going to prison for a long time. Firstly, if the government give longer prison sentences, people will think twice before doing crime. For example, if someone know they will go to prison for 20 years for robbery, they will not do it. This is because the punishment is very severe. Secondly, when criminals are in prison for a long time, they cannot do more crimes. This means the society will be more safer. For instance, a thief who is in prison cannot steal from people. However, some people think that education and job training is better than long prison sentences. They say that if people have good education and jobs, they will not do crime. In conclusion, I believe that longer prison sentences is the best way to reduce crime because it scared criminals and keep them away from society.
